Reaching for the moon: Stories about Bending the Arc of the Moral Universe

  • Saltonstall Farm Stratham, NH (map)

Wednesday, July 8, at 7 pm, storyteller Andy Davis will be performing at Saltonstall Farm in Stratham. The event is a fundraiser for 350 New Hampshire, a multigenerational movement advocating for a just transition to clean energy and an end to fossil fuel use and extraction. It is the first of 20 performances Davis is doing through New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts this summer, ranging from Burlington to Provincetown, getting to all of them by bicycle, on two tours totaling 24 days and 900 miles.

He'll be telling “Reaching for the Moon: Stories About Bending the Arc of the Moral Universe,” a set of social justice stories, including historical tales, personal stories and a bit of folklore, about maintaining hope and standing up for what’s right in the most difficult of times.

“I love when a teller can entertain, delight and educate so seamlessly,” said Elinor Benjamin, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, past president of Storytellers of Canada. “Andy certainly does all that.”

Andy Davis got his start as a storyteller telling comic tales by candlelight in Mexican refugee camps 30 years ago. He has since broadened and refined his craft and has entertained audiences from Bamako to Seattle with his signature blend of infectious humor, sly wisdom, and a cheerfully subversive spirit. He lives with his wife in a little home-made house in Tamworth, NH. Find out more about his work at www.andydavisstoryteller.com.

This is Davis’s third summer of bicycle storytelling. Last July he rode 850 miles through all six New England states, debuting his one-man-show “Quixotic!” which celebrates his relationship with Don Quixote and the capacity of art to change the world.

The July 8 event will begin with a potluck supper at 7 pm followed by storytelling. The suggested donation is $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The stories are recommended for teens and adults. For more information, email Kendra Ford at kendra@350nh.org.
